Abstract
"Walk as if that were the goal to be reached," Armand Gatti liked to repeat. This volume, dedicated to his work and his era—which is also ours—aims to take a step back, not to strip them of emotion, but to understand their guiding threads and define their aesthetic, political, and ontological stakes. What matters is neither memory as such, nor the sole duty of remembrance, but the future of the past, which Gatti turns into an undeniable necessity. "We are not historical characters, we are persons, we are survivors." This fine, tragic, and lucid expression by Armand Gatti serves as the Ariadne's thread for the various articles in this book—"an Ariadne's thread, ever resonant with the voice of Orpheus's song," in the words of Gilles Deleuze (A Thousand Plateaus). With Gatti, creation becomes an act of resistance and survival.
