Version 0. Notes on the Digital Book, ÉCRIDIL 2018

(conducted in collaboration with the Canada Research Chair on Digital Textualities and Codicille éditeur).

# This is a digital book

What is a book? How is it bound to transform in the digital age? In May 2018, researchers and practitioners from diverse backgrounds (design, publishing, communication, literature, etc.) gathered in Montreal for the ÉCRIDIL symposium to assess the current landscape and propose potential answers.

Stemming from an editorial experiment conducted alongside the event, this volume is a fragmented and systematic index of the notes taken collectively during the discussions. Its creation relies on digital tools that engage a new form of publishing workflow—one that is collaborative, hybrid, and open across both time and space. You are currently browsing "Version 0" of a book designed to welcome future expansions and reconfigurations.

POD Version:

The volume stems from the ÉCRIDIL symposium held in Montreal in May 2018, which brought together researchers and practitioners from backgrounds such as design, publishing, communication, and literature. Their discussions aimed to assess the current landscape and propose potential answers regarding the evolution of the book. The resulting text functions as a fragmented and systematic index of notes taken collectively during the event, reflecting on what constitutes a book and how it transforms in contemporary digital contexts.

Its creation relies on digital tools that engage a collaborative, hybrid publishing workflow open across time and space. The resulting publication is designed to welcome future expansions and reconfigurations, presented here as an initial stabilization of content produced by a booksprint team. Readers interested in the mechanics of modern publishing workflows and the theoretical questions surrounding digital textualities may find these notes relevant to their inquiries.
