The papers collected in this volume were presented at the Fifth Chronos Colloquium, held at the University of Groningen from June 19 to 21, 2002. They underwent peer review and were revised by the authors for publication in this volume. They address discourse structuration, the expression of various modalities, and temporality/aspect across different languages. These topics have been the subject of numerous recent and past studies. What distinguishes this collection from others is not only the novelty of certain linguistic data, but also their sometimes highly original treatment. The languages studied are French, English, Polish, and Serbo-Croatian.
This volume gathers peer-reviewed papers originating from the Fifth Chronos Colloquium, hosted at the University of Groningen in June 2002. As part of the ongoing scholarly exploration of tense, aspect, and temporal relations, the contributions investigate how linguistic structures convey temporal frameworks and modal nuances. The collection specifically highlights research examining French alongside English, Polish, and Serbo-Croatian, bringing together diverse linguistic perspectives on these interrelated grammatical domains within formal and discursive contexts. Readers interested in contemporary research on tense systems, aspectuality, and discourse organization may find this collection relevant.
